Lita & Jean: Memoirs of Two Generations of Military Women

Written by VVFF Team Member Kristal Kent

In my network of colleagues, advocates and friends, I know many people who are published authors. On several occasions, I have been asked if I would be willing to read a person's early book edition and provide a review of their book. I am always happy to do so and support my friends. When Lita Tomas and Jean Marie McNamara asked if I would read an early edition of their book and provide a review, I was not only happy to do so, but I was also a little excited. Lita and Jean Marie are fellow Veteran Sisters in Arms. I was more than happy to oblige their request because their book would amplify the voices of Military Women and Women Veterans from a Generational perspective.

In the summer of 2021, I was forwarded an early edition of their book "Lita & Jean: Memoirs of Two Generations of Military Women." I began reading the book and was captivated! So much so, that I put everything aside, and finished the early book edition in 2 days. I am sure many people would say "of course Kristal would be captivated by the book because she is an Army Veteran," but it was so much more than that.

While reading the book, not only did I envision my own military experiences, but I also recalled my own non-military life experiences as well, and how some of my experiences paralleled Lita and Jean Marie's experiences. Many aspects of the book can be applied to different aspects of any woman's life. Lita and Jean Marie's personal stories not only will resonate with Female Veterans but Non-Female Veterans as well. Further, this book gives a great snapshot of what life is like for Women in military service. Lita and Jean Marie's book provides an inside unique look of what Military Women contend with while serving our country, while they simultaneously manage the intersectionality's of family life, relationships and interpersonal circumstances. This book also highlights some of the systemic circumstance's women contend with both in the Military and in life in general.

With that said, not only was I honored to provide a review for Lita and Jean Marie's book, but I am also thrilled to share their book with you. "Lita & Jean: Memoirs of Two Generations of Military Women." is now available on Amazon in both Hardcover and Kindle! Amazon Link Below!
