2026 Fibromyalgia Awareness Proclamations: A Landmark Year of Recognition and Momentum

The 2026 Fibromyalgia Awareness season marks a defining moment in the ongoing effort to elevate understanding, visibility, and validation for those living with Fibromyalgia. This year has brought an unprecedented level of engagement from city, state and local governments across the country, resulting in a record number of proclamations and resolutions recognizing Fibromyalgia Awareness.

Through coordinated advocacy, persistent outreach, and collaborative efforts, this milestone reflects more than symbolic recognition, it represents a growing acknowledgment of fibromyalgia as a serious, complex, and life-altering condition that deserves sustained public attention and support.

At the heart of this success is the collaborative efforts of #TeamFibro, spearheaded by Veteran Voices For Fibromyalgia and The Fibromyalgia Pain Chronicles, working alongside various nonprofit organizations: Fibromyalgia National Health Organization, Fibro Life, Fibromyalgia Task Force of New York State, International Pain Foundation, Looms4Lupus, Lupus Spoons, and Men with Fibromyalgia. These groups have collectively advanced an initiative centered on education, legislative outreach, and community mobilization. Members of these nonprofit organizations requested numerous proclamations from city mayors nationwide, and 48 Fibromyalgia Awareness Proclamation requests were submitted to Governors.

Thus far proclamations were issued by the Governors of: Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin. This achievement did not occur in isolation. Since 2021, #TeamFibro has consistently worked to obtain Fibromyalgia proclamations. The unprecedented number of proclamations and resolutions this year is a testament to years of relationship-building with public officials and the determination of advocates who strive for greater recognition of the everyday challenges faced by those living with Fibromyalgia. While proclamations are symbolic, their impact is significant. They facilitate educational opportunities, promote public discussion, and validate the experiences of millions of Fibromyalgia sufferers who are often overlooked or misunderstood. Most importantly, they affirm that Fibromyalgia deserves recognition in public health discussions at all levels. Each proclamation secured is a step toward reducing stigma, enhancing awareness among policymakers, and fostering more informed conversations within healthcare systems and communities. It also signifies that Fibromyalgia Awareness is no longer a silent voice, it is a rising voice, and this year that voice is being heard more clearly than ever before.

As this year’s Fibromyalgia awareness season continues, the momentum behind these efforts’ points to something bigger: a stronger, more organized, and more unified movement. Much work remains, but 2026 is a powerful reminder of what collaboration, persistence, and shared purpose can achieve.
